EBN: Sea The Moon reached a new record

Also hitting the 525,000gns mark, Sea The Moon reached a new record. Progeny by the eleven-length Gr.1 Deutsches Derbywinning son of Sea The Stars have proved popular at other yearling sales and it was Roger Varian that came out victorious for this Stauffenberg Bloodstock-consigned Lot 272. A homebred of Gestut Gorlsdorf, who also bred and raced the sire, the bay, already named Tickle The Moon, is a half-brother to the German Listed winner Tickle Me Blue (Iffraaj). They are out of the unraced Groom Dancer mare Tickle Me Pink, whose half-sister Irresistible (Cadeaux Genereux) produced, amongst others, the Gr.3 winner and Classic-placed Infallible and the dam of Gr.1 winner and sire Garswood.

Heike Bischoff Lafrentz, who owns the East German-based farm with husband Niko, said: “We are delighted; he looked very much like his sire. We also have a Sea The Moon in Book 2 [Lot 1051 – out of a Cadeaux Genereux half-sister to Tickle Me Pink]. This colt joined Phillippe [von Stauffenberg] in July and I have to give him a big thank you.”

In response to why this colt was sent to Park Paddocks, Bischoff Lafrentz said: “He is very connected with Newmarket, as we bought the mare from Cheveley Park [18,000gns 2008 Tattersalls July Sale] and has a page that breeders and buyers here would know.”

Gorlsdorf, as would be expected, has supported its stallion well over the three years that he has been covering and will have around 15 to race next year, although exact numbers are unknown at present, with six yearlings from the stud catalogued at the BBAG Sales and Racing Festival Sale later this month. Trainers in Germany mentioned as possibly receiving yearlings included Markus Klug, Peter Schiergen and Roland Dzubasz, while France and Britain were also mentioned as possible destinations.

The husband and wife team also announced that the six-yearold stallion would remain at £15,000 for the 2018 covering season, a fee that he has covered at since his retirement to Kirsten Rausing’s Lanwades Stud in 2015.
